artist 1: Sally Timmons

Sally Timmons is an artist and curator based in Dublin, Ireland. She works on many projects simultaneously, including public installations of her own artwork, multi-disciplinary publications, and group-based initiatives in the urban community of Dublin. She is also the founder of CommonPlace Amateur Projects, a center for workshops, projects, and studios directed at forming a new relationship between a professional audience and practicing artists.

According to her website, Timmons makes artwork that “examines overlooked phenomena such as legacy-building, leisure time, and self-help.” She is known for producing a video in which the speaker (and subject) claims to be attempting to record some important information about herself in the event of future memory loss. Unfortunately, glitches and errors in the recording process render the video obsolete, in the same way that home movies or video documentation of important events often suffer from lense cap problems, loss of battery power, or other gaffes and/or technological failures. More recent projects include her work with the Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council Concourse Series, and a site-specific video installation for City of Ideas, an exhibition at Barons Self Storage in Galway, Ireland.

Timmons has curated a number of important projects in Ireland, including the Moore Street Lending Library, Temporary Foray, and Rigor Mort.
